On Sunday, Emma Heming Willis posted a short clip to Instagram on Mother’s Day in the US, in which she tells her followers the heartbreaking story of her husband’s devastating battle with dementia. The Die Hard actor was diagnosed with frontotemporal dementia, known as FTD, last spring. His health battle was first announced a year earlier when his family revealed that he suffered from a language disorder called aphasia.




Over the weekend, Emma wrote on her Instagram: “Happy Mother’s Day. You know, this day reminded me of my three girlfriends. This year I’m experiencing Mother’s Day completely differently. One lost her mother, the other lost her daughter.

I think it’s important for me to reach out to them, just to let them know I’m thinking about them, which I think ultimately honors them and who they are.


“I think people get really nervous, thinking, ‘Should I say something? Will it be more depressing for them? Will it be more liberating? Honestly, sometimes I think silence is weird. If you really do this, if you lead with love, compassion and empathy, the person on the other side will ultimately appreciate it. Good morning and happy Mother’s Day.

“In my humble opinion, the silence is strange. Never be afraid or nervous when trying to reach someone who may be navigating troubled waters due to their own fear. If you lead with love and compassion, it will always be well received,” he says. written.
